Indian Peaks July 4th Parade

Indian Peaks, Lafayette, CO, July 4th ParadeEvery year in the Indian Peaks neighborhood of Lafayette, CO there is an Independence Parade on July 4th! The children come out in droves with decorated bicycles and strollers to march around the neighborhood. The community organizes the route around the neighborhood, and lots more fun in the park after the parade is done!

Indian Peaks, Lafayette, CO, July 4th ParadeThe cutest part of the day is seeing all of the children in their red, white, and blue! The bikes are all unique as well as the costumes. One of my favorites of the day was a soon-to-be mother who decorated her belly by wrapping up in an American flag! The kids all have face paint, or head gear in theme with the parade. The bikes have streamers, flags and more. As you can see in the photo our stroller had red, white and blue – as well as a basket for my daughter’s special friend, Patty the Bunny!

The parade started around 9am and was lead by the Lafayette Fire Department! They brought out the fire trucks and started the children marching (or rolling!) with the roar of their sirens. After a few blocks of parading with streamers flying everyone converged on the large park at the center of the neighborhood. Here there were treats for the kids, as well as games to continue the fun. The games include potato sack races and water balloon tossing! The Lafayette Fire Department hung around with their fire trucks to let the kids explore and even sit in the driver’s seat!

Camels!! THAT IS HILARIOUS! The other side of the coin for you is the beautiful, mild, winters in Phoenix… and the other side of the coin for us at the end of the year is a Winter Wonderland!!! Colorado is nice year round :0)
